The dreaded teething...

I am going through the dreaded teething stage and can not determine when it is as simple as teething pain or an ear infection. Does anyone actually check their own babies ears before bringing them in to the dr.?

You can buy a low end otoscope over the internet, but then you'd have to know what to look for inside the ear. Most ear infections are self-limiting, meaning they clear themselves w/o the need for antibiotics. Many doctors are now recommending medicine for the pain associated with the ear infection instead of antibiotics, due to the chance of developing antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria.

How many and how often does your son have ear infections? If the ear infections are numerous and often, you might want to talk to your pediatrician about getting tubes placed in your son's ear. I hope that helps.

Believe me, $15.00 co pay is worth every penny to save your son from a serious ear infection, or worse. There are all kinds of devices, but are you a trained physician that you can diagnose the problem?

If you are concerned about your son having an ear infection, try using garlic capsules for him... cut them open and put the liquid from the capsules into his ears about four times a day... the garlic helps to get rid of ear infections. Any time my children complain of ear pain, this is what I do for them... I use it for a week and have them cleared up in no time.
